The Earth Journalism Network (EJN) is pleased to announce the following opportunities for journalists. Please click the links for more information and deadlines for our workshops, fellowships and story grants.

Workshop: Development reporting at the Dawei SEZ

Myanmar’s ever-widening borders have lured investments to the seaside community of Dawei on a scale beyond anything previously seen in Southeast Asia. The Dawei Special Economic Zone (SEZ) envisions nearly 200 square kilometers of industrial development, a deep-sea port and road, rail and pipeline links to neighboring Thailand and beyond. Mekong Partnership for the Environment is bringing 12-15 journalists on an educational trip to learn about SEZ planning, visit sites, meet communities and experts, understand the company’s and government’s views, learn about the science – and learn how to tell balanced, independent, accurate stories about regional development decisions.

Story fellowships: Data journalism in the Hindu Kush Himalayas

Eligible journalists are invited to apply for grants to produce data-driven stories that highlight issues of water and climate change in Hindu Kush Himalayas. The Third Pole and Internews’ Earth Journalism Network (EJN), with support from Skoll Global Threats Fund, are providing an opportunity that could be helpful for journalists who have an interest in multimedia and data visualization but lack adequate funding for research and field trips.

Media fellowship: IUCN World Conservation Congress

Journalists are invited to apply to join a fellowship program on biodiversity and conservation, at the IUCN World Conservation Congress in Hawai’i in September. Selected participants will attend a day-long workshop on September 1st before spending Sept 2-5 at the World Conservation Congress developing sources and story ideas, networking with other journalists, and reporting on news from conservation organizations, governments and researchers.
